Tips To Becoming a Virtual Assistant

What is a Virtual Assistant? Everyone has their own idea of what a Virtual Assistant is, however, per Wikipedia, a virtual assistant is "self-employed and provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients remotely from a home office". Now, if this falls in line with what you are wanting for your career, let's get into some tips about becoming a Virtual Assistant.
Tip 1 - Determine what your skills are
Everyone has a skill, whether it's they are great at spelling and grammar, a whiz at social media, or a pro at project managing. Pinpoint what your skill is, your selling point, and build off of that. That may mean taking a couple classes to enhance those skills so to separate yourself from the competition. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you do it well.
Tip 2 - Build a website
Building a website is easier than ever these days. There are sites that are simple drag and drops that you can do yourself, or you can pay someone to do it for you. I suggest, since you're just starting out, to build one yourself. It doesn't have to be complicated. Find a free website builder, build a simple website that shows off your strengths by examples and via content, and publish it to the web. You need a place for employers to learn about who you are, what you have to offer, your previous experience and see examples of your work. You can even post your rates on there to make it easier for employers!
Tip 3 - Build your resume
This is especially important since potential clients look at your resume and form an opinion within the first 8-10 seconds. You need to make sure your resume is dynamic and stands out from your competitors. This is one area most people lack on and yet is very powerful. Becoming a virtual assistant depends on potential clients choosing you, give them a reason to do so!
Tip 4 - Find clients
Becoming a virtual assistant requires one major thing; having clients! To find jobs/projects, you need to do some searching. The internet has tons of sites that provide clients looking for virtual assistants/freelancers, however, which ones are legit, provide worthwhile jobs, and aren't so congested that the competition is so fierce you'll never hear from anyone! I would say, try a few out, see what kind of jobs you obtain from them, and go from there. After obtaining a few clients from various sources, you can then build off of that, get re-occurring clients, referrals, and more.
Now, there is definitely more you can do to help with becoming a virtual assistant, however, these are some simple steps to help guide you in the right direction.
